AZALR TRAVELING TROPHY
1. Every ALR Chapter is eligible to participate. If the winning Chapter does not have a clubroom or bar at its Post (or does not share a building with the VFW or another organization), then the winning Chapter must make arrangements with an ALR Chapter which does have a clubroom or bar to hold and display the Traveling Trophy on their behalf until it is claimed by another Chapter. The ALR Chapter holding the Trophy must be in the same District as the Chapter which won the Trophy. The ALR Chapter which is holding the Trophy for the Chapter with no home is eligible to claim it on the next published date and time. 2. The initial location of the trophy will be ALR 87 (Bullhead City), which was the first ALR Chapter to offer to purchase the trophy. 3. Whichever Chapter has won the trophy, it must be prominently displayed in the Post's clubroom/bar so everyone can see it. 4. Two members from a Chapter must be present at the designated steal time to be considered eligible to participate. An ALR member can only represent one ALR Chapter at the steal. 5. In the event that more than one Chapter with the appropriate number of members is present at the announced Steal Date and Time, then the Chapter entitled to claim the Trophy that day will be decided by drawing cards (high card wins). If a Chapter has traveled more than 50 miles (the shortest distance from your home Post to the Post which physically has the trophy), for each 50.1 miles you have traveled you can draw an additional card. [Example 1: Post A has the trophy; it is a 48 mile ride from your Post to Post A; you can only draw one card. Example 2: Post A has the trophy; it is a 50.1 mile ride from your Post to Post A; you can draw two cards. Example 3: Post A has the trophy; it is a 100.1 mile ride from your Post to Post A; you can draw three cards. And so forth] Distance is counted from your home Post to the Post which has the trophy, as determined by Google Maps. {As a matter of courtesy, it would be nice if each Chapter traveling would determine mileage using Google ahead of time so we don’t have to do computations on the morning of the draw} For those Chapters which do not have a "home Post", the distance will be determined based upon the distance from that Chapter's monthly meeting location, as published on the AZALR website. [Clarification – the right to draw additional cards because of distance only applies to the initial draw. If there is a second or more drawing because of a tie, every Chapter only gets to draw one card on redraws. Also, when we have a drawing for high card, you get only one high card (even though – because of distance – you might get to draw 2 or more cards). You do not keep drawing additional cards to see if you can get a second high card. To do so would be unfair to Chapters who didn’t have far to travel and only get to draw one card. Example: 3 Chapters show up. Chapter 1 (1 card) draws an ace Chapter 2 (1 card) draws a Jack Chapter 3 (far away) get to draw 3 cards; first one is a 10; second one is an ace. There is now a tie between Chapter 1 and 3. Chapter 3 doesn’t get to draw an additional card (an Ace being the highest card possible) BUT – there is now a play-off (or sudden death or whatever you want to call it) between the Chapters which drew the highest card. Only one card is drawn by the Chapters with the highest cards which tied.] 6. Whenever the Trophy is transported, it must remain in its original packaging to insure that it is not damaged or broken. If the Trophy is damaged or broken, it is the responsibility of the Chapter in possession to repair or replace it. 7. As soon as an ALR Chapter claims the Traveling Trophy, the AZALR Chairman must be notified so he/she can notify all other ALR Chapters. {Of course, everyone needs to know where the Trophy is.} 8. The Chapter claiming the Traveling Trophy must also notify the AZALR Chairman of the hours that the Post which has claimed the Trophy is open and the Steal Time. 9. Once a Chapter claims the Trophy, it is "safe" for a 7 day period, and during that 7 days cannot be claimed by another Chapter. Day 1 starts the day AFTER the trophy is physically claimed by an ALR Chapter (to give time to get back to their respective Post and get it displayed the next day). 10. The Trophy can only be claimed on or after the Steal Day and Time which is sent out to all Chapters upon the Trophy being claimed by a new Chapter. During the months of October through March, the Steal Time cannot be any earlier than noon or later than 2 PM. During all other months, the Steal Time must be between 10 AM and 2 PM. 11. The Chapter that has won the Traveling Trophy last is ineligible to draw the day they “host” the Trophy Steal, even if the Trophy is displayed and the Steal occurs at another Post (in the case they don’t have a physical Post/Clubroom). 12. The AZALR Annual Traveling Trophy (Master Thief Trophy) will be awarded during the AZALR Annual meeting to the ALR Chapter which has stolen the Trophy the most times since the previous annual meeting, and should remain at the home of that Chapter for the ensuing year. If the winning Chapter does not have a clubroom or bar at its Post (or does not share a building with the VFW or another organization), then the winning Chapter must make arrangements with an ALR Chapter which does have a clubroom or bar to hold and display the Traveling Trophy on their behalf until the AZALR Traveling Trophy is awarded at the next annual meeting. In the event of a tie, there will be a draw of cards (one card each) by the Chapters who have tied, Ace being the high card. Whenever the AZALR Annual Traveling Trophy is transported, it must remain in packaging to ensure that it is not damaged or broken. If the Trophy is damaged or broken, it is the responsibility of the Chapter in possession to repair or replace it. Also, the ALR Chapter which wins the AZALR Annual Traveling Trophy is responsible for purchasing a matching nameplate for that year. [Suggested vendor for the nameplates is MVP Trophies, 3050 S. Country Club Drive, Mesa 85210; phone: 480-247-9365.] Amended by majority vote of the AZALR District Representatives on June 25, 2022.
